April 2005
International Cemetery and Funeral Association (ICCFA) Press Release
RESTON, VA (April 11, 2005) - Linus Shackelford, CCE, president and general manger of
Lakeland Place Garden Park Cemetery in Brandon, Mississippi, was awarded a Certified
Cemetery Executive (CCE) designation during the International Cemetery and Funeral
Association's Annual Convention & Exposition, March 31-April 2, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
A member of the cemetery profession for approximately 30 years, Shackelford is an active
member of the ICCFA and has participated in numerous conferences and educational
programs across the country, including ICCFA's premier educational forum, ICCFA
University held each year in Memphis, Tennessee, in conjunction with the University of
Memphis, at Fogelman's International Business Center on the University Campus.
Shackelford dedicates much of his time speaking to civic, church and elderly groups on
topics pertaining to the industry. He is a member of the Rankin Country Chamber of
Commerce with preference in the chamber's elderly education functions. Shackelford has
taught Bible study at the Carres Center for homeless and abused children and chemical
dependency patients at the Doctor's Hospital (now at St. Dominic's Behavioral Health
Services) for First Baptist Church in Jackson along with teaching regular Sunday School
and the new members class. Shackelford now attends and serves Pinelake Baptist Church
across from Lakeland Place Garden Park Cemetery on Lakeland Drive.
The CCE program recognizes individuals who have demonstrated a high degree of
competence and a high level of cemetery management experience and skills. To date, only
210 individuals worldwide have been awarded the CCE designation, and only one of two in
Mississippi. The first to receive the CCE designation in Mississippi was 20 years ago to a
now retired attorney.
The CCE certification is intended to raise the standards of those engaged in cemetery
management, to encourage individuals to participate in a program of continuing education
and development. The ICCFA executive designation program assists in identifying people
with expansive knowledge of the principles and practices of cemetery management and
related disciplines and laws governing the industry.
Founded in 1887, the ICCFA is the only international trade association representing all
segments of the cemetery, funeral and memorialization profession. Its membership is
comprised of more than 7,000 cemeteries, funeral homes, memorial designers,
crematories and related businesses worldwide.
